MEET THE AUTHOR
Phelicia is a native of California and has her roots in the Bay Area. She’s a wife, mother to four and grandmother to one. She has a Masters in Reading Leadership with a focus on Multicultural Literature. Her sixteen years in education includes working for private, charter and public schools. She admits one of her greatest joys in teaching included teaching her own four children to read. It was during the homeschool years that she learned that not all children learn the same way and that there isn't a "one size fits all curriculum." She's currently a Reading Specialist and Site Literacy Lead. She also coordinates a summer Kindergarten Intervention Program for African American Children. Phelicia is a literacy advocate and very passionate about early literacy. Teaching students to learn to read well, think critically, and develop a love of literacy is a portion of her work. Assuring students have access to literature that reflects their lives and cultures in a positive light is the fuel of her passion.
