MEET THE AUTHOR
Demetria Ballard is the founder of the D. Nicole Girls Academy. It is a one-year program for girls ages 10-19 designed to promote mental health and wellness through a curriculum covering topics such as STD awareness, self-esteem and confidence, and taking care of the body. In 2019, Demetria established D. Nicole which is created to empower girls and women to become the BEST versions of themselves. It is her goal that women and girls may find peace within themselves through self-discovery, self-love, and embracing a lifestyle of wellness and positive mental health.
This story is about a character named Demi Nicole that deals with low self-esteem. She has a friend named Insecurity that always says unkind things to her that causes her to have low self-worth. Throughout the story, Insecurity makes Demi Nicole feel bad about her hair, skin tone, and physical appearance. Insecurity’s sister, Confidence, has a skin disease called Vitiligo. Confidence knows that living with white spots all over her body isn’t easy, but she loves herself anyway! She always finds a way to tell Demi Nicole that she is good enough the way she is.
