MEET THE AUTHOR
Candice Jones is a Caribbean Canadian author and accomplished gospel jazz saxophonist who loves to express her creativity in a variety of ways, including writing, visual arts, and music. She was born and raised in Montreal, QC, Canada in a Trinidadian home filled with music, fried bakes, salt fish, ginger beer, and, her personal favourite, sorrel.
Candice loves to meet people from all walks of life and listen to their stories. She also enjoys illustrating the beautiful faces she encounters and composing songs about matters of the heart and spirit.
Candice’s bold desire to travel has recently taken her to South Korea where she taught English to Elementary and Middle School children. Unfortunately, due to covid19 she was unable to finish her time at the school in Daegu, South Korea. She is back in Canada now working towards her next adventure.
Have you ever met someone and wondered where they might be from?
Hi, I'm Tolu! I play steelpan, I love the saxophone, and I like art.
Dad always says I am his curious Caribbean Canadian girl and I'm super excited to go to my new school tomorrow!
Mom said there are many kids that don't look like me. Do you think that's cool?!! I do, but I'm a little nervous too.
What makes Canada strong is its diversity, but we often don't take the time to truly explore it.
'Where are you from?', is a book where you can follow Tolu as she explores and teaches us about diversity for what it is, a strength.
